Dear Homegrown Yogis,
February is known as the month of love. And yes, I know – you may roll your eyes and feel like it is just another made-up holiday to get us to buy more things. And yes, I kind of agree but I also cannot help but celebrate a time dedicated to what I believe is the most powerful source in the world – LOVE. My favorite description of love comes from Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning:
… I saw the truth as it is set into song by so many poets, proclaimed as the final wisdom by so many thinkers. The truth – that love is the ultimate and the highest goal to which man can aspire. Then I grasped the meaning of the greatest secret that human poetry and human thought and belief have to impart: The salvation of man is through love and in love. I understood how a man who has nothing left in the world still may know bliss, be it only for a brief moment, in the contemplation of his beloved…
I am beyond fortunate to have people in my life who I love and who love me. They are my beloveds. I am also amazed on a daily basis that I have the chance to build my professional life on my other love – the practice of yoga.
This month, we have more events planned for you than we have ever run in a single month. It’s no coincidence – we want to spend this month doing what we love and encouraging you to do what you love (hopefully that includes a few classes with us!).
You’ll notice that many of our classes this month are donation-based. That is to make sure everyone has the chance to practice with us and to also support an organization that spreads the love of yoga in an incredible way. Next month, I will be traveling to Kenya to assist with Africa Yoga Project’s 200 hour teacher training program, a training for local Africans passionate about bringing yoga to their communities. Until the end of the month, we are raising money that will be used specifically to scholarship African teacher trainees and to support free community yoga classes throughout Africa. If you would like to help spread the yoga love, drop off a donation at the studio or go online to make a donation there.
However you feel about Valentine’s Day and this month of love, I encourage you to embrace the spirit. Do what you love, love what you do, and spread love as you do it.
With all my love,
Rachel
